Wiki So Far

I have been adding various content and information to existing posts and contributions. I have also made a few grammatical changes as well. I noticed that there was a small mistake under the “mobile passport” section under the traveling wiki page. I also added a good amount of new updated information to the Justkidding Films section under the YouTube wiki page. From here on, I will be adding more content to areas that I know a bit more about such as the traveling wiki page and also the marketing wiki page. Furthermore, I will also be going over existing pages to check if there are any new information that I can or should add and also make sure that there are no grammatical errors.

The Next New

A great addition to new media would be the ability to allows device users to be able to “smell” what they are watching. Up until now, we are able to experience a video through two of our senses which are sight and sound. However, I believe that it would be very interesting if we can incorporate a way for content creators and manufacturers to be able to add a feature that allows users to smell what they are watching. This does not have to be readily available on every single device but like VR headsets, it can be an attachment that users are able to purchase and use. This can come in very handy if there is say a cooking show and the chef wants his/her audiences to smell his cooking behind their screens. This can very well lead to a new dimension of marketing and content sharing/creating.

P2P

File sharing is a method of uploading files by users so that other users are able to download them on their device for their own desire. P2P is a method to share files between individuals whether it is photos, music, videos, or documents. It is short for peer to peer sharing. P2P services have been infamous for pirating and illegally distributing digital files without the permission of their original owners. Some of these well-known sites include Napster, Megaupload, Piratebay and such. P2P easily allows users to share any content they want and allow others to efficiently download or upload files as well. Privacy on New Media

With more and more information being transferred online, privacy should be one of the biggest concerns and considerations of new media. Simply by accessing a few pages, one can easily learn so much about another person’s personal information whether they know it or not. Studies have been done to show how simply by watching a person’s Instagram feed, the participants were able to track down the exact locations of the page’s owner. This is a very frightening fact since more and more people are entering this online world. Not only that, many services have even made it even simpler by promoting features such as using geo-tag location services which gives a person’s real-time location to almost pinpoint accuracy. In more extreme cases, malicious hackers would forcefully and intentionally try to steal or tamper with your information/data. These are all not said to deter users away from new media. Instead, as with anything in the world, we should pract...

Advice

There are many effective methods that can be implemented in order to make Baruch college more well known. By leveraging social media, the potential of getting the school’s name out to more individuals will be really great. To start off, there needs to be more sets of eyes on the school. More people must first recognize that the campus simply exists. This step is not too hard. The school can use many different social media platforms in order to better promote themselves such as through tweeting about any new live events, posting anything interesting on their Instagram page or having students interact more by allowing a q&a forum on Facebook or such. Consistency is also key. Pages should regularly be updated instead of once in a while since it will promote students to go back to visit the page more often. The student’s opinions should be considered prior to making any decisions, this allows them to feel involved overall. I personally believe that physical flyers are not as effecti...
